Jeff Bezos Does Not Speak For America And Neither Does Amazon

It’s interesting how some people believe because they have a company with a huge following, that somehow makes them a spokesperson for the nation. Such is the case in point with Jeff Bezos and Amazon. Bezos has the audacity to believe, apparently, that by issuing a statement that he and his lawyers are supporting an attempt to stop the Presidents Executive Order on the temporary immigration ban.

Here is the email sent out to Amazon employees.

*A quick update on where we are. This executive order is one we do not support. Our public policy team in D.C. has reached out to senior administration officials to make our opposition clear. We’ve also reached out to congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle to explore legislative options. Our legal team has prepared a declaration of support for the Washington State Attorney General who will be filing suit against the order. We are working other legal options as well.

We’re a nation of immigrants whose diverse backgrounds, ideas, and points of view have helped us build and invent as a nation for over 240 years. No nation is better at harnessing the energies and talents of immigrants. It’s a distinctive competitive advantage for our country—one we should not weaken.

To our employees in the U.S. and around the world who may be directly affected by this order, I want you to know that the full extent of Amazon’s resources are behind you.*

Where does his message address the purpose of the Executive Order? Where is it stating anything to do with race, religion or national origin? So what is it that Bezos objects to? He doesn’t say. Could it be he really doesn’t know? Now there’s a thought.

This is not the voice of the people of our country. This is more along the line of some misguided individual who apparently thinks because he has some money and influence, he somehow represents a faction of our society. Amazon needs to stick to what they do best, which is sell things. Not meddle in areas where they don’t belong.

I like Amazon. Many items have been ordered through the years, plus I have two eBooks with Amazon, and am also an Amazon Associate, advertising on my blogs and websites. I’m not sure how I will feel going forward based on the actions of Jeff Bezos, as they clearly go against my President and his actions to make our country more secure. By opposing this executive order, Bezos places himself clearly on the side of not making our borders more secure and leaving citizens at risk.

Maybe Bezos has lots of business with materials to make bombs ordered through Amazon and is trying to protect that source of revenue. Since Amazon is a global entity, is that to hard to imagine? It’s understandable why Democrats are opposed. They have taken the low road out of retaliation for losing the White House and a continuation of the irresponsible governance of our country. It would be interesting to see what good things actually came out of the Obama administration, that were really positive for the country.

Aside from that, Bezos, instead of taking time to fully understand the purpose behind the Presidents Executive order, and what it is intended to do and how, has shown his own irresponsible behavior towards the security of our country.

It could be assumed Bezos is a person who does have a certain level of influence. Does that give him the idea that he is in a position to criticize the Presidents policy? What does he know about the particulars of the policy, that make him any sort of authority? The question is did he consult any legal advice concerning the content of the Executive order, or just let himself be manipulated by the “opposition party” and their rhetoric?

To be certain it’s difficult to understand how a seemingly intelligent person, which it could be assumed Bezos is, would have a hard time seeing the purpose of this move as anything other than protectionist. Then again, Bezos may have ulterior motives not apparent to the casual observer.

To clarify a point, these are the thoughts of an ordinary citizen reacting to what at first glance appears to be abject ignorance of the issue as it concerns Bezos and what appears to be his lack of understanding of the Executive Order. I haven’t read the order, and have listened to several explanations of the purpose of this order, and some of the sub-issues such as it applies to green-card carriers. Those from the 7 countries must go through the extreme vetting, which has as it’s purpose to verify the information provided is sufficient, deeply accurate and can be trusted. I don’t know about you readers, but where is the problem? It’s not about religion, nationality, or anything other than knowing about those wanting to come to our country and their intentions here. Yes…their intentions!

In all of this, where are American values? Where does that even come into play? In what way are American values affected in any way? If it concerns how much I value my safety, or that of any of my family, you bet! Do I value our freedom to decide about who comes to our country and with what motives? You bet. Is there value in the right to pursue health, happiness and prosperity for all citizens, and those who have completed the process to live in this country? No question. So in what way have any of those values been compromised? They haven’t, so the claim of such is simply unjustified.

So Jeff Bezos, your actions may be seen as more un-American
than anything representing patriotism. However since American values include the right of free speech, apparently that value has not been affected. So is it really just an attempt to somehow bolster attention to Amazon? Is this just a giant rattling a saber? What are your intentions Mr. Bezos? Are they honorable? That is the question. Do you have the courage to answer?
